Happy Thanksgiving week to all of our pepelwerk listeners. This is Kim Kelley, the CEO and Co-founder of pepelwerk, and this week, we are all about trying to recognize things to be grateful for. Of course, that's the theme of the week in the United States. But actually, as I was preparing for this podcast, I went back to my history books and, of course, I did lots of research to see where else in the world we celebrate the idea of Thanksgiving.

To be honest with you, I'm completely confused between what the pictures I saw in kindergarten were with the Native Americans and the pilgrims having their big shared feast and communion over different food and enjoying a piece between them and some of the facts that I've just now brought into my adult mind. I'm sure, somewhere, my history teacher is screaming that I wasn't listening before, but our Thanksgiving has always had a root in some sort of religious or cultural element to various groups throughout the world. How does that even relate to pepelwerk and the concept of what we do and changing the way that we approach our work lives?

Well, a lot, really, because when you think about why we celebrate things, sometimes, people just get lost in the habit, and habits are sometimes a dangerous thing because we kind of go on autopilot and we think this is what we need to do and this is why we need to do it, and these are the options available to us. But really, in the digital era, which we are the most thankful for at pepelwerk, is the ability to actually think about why we do things and have the options to explore tools and information that allow us to just, again, think.

We're really thankful for the digital era bringing in the options of how we think, approach, get connected to work in all around the world. No matter if you are in Canada or in Germany or in China or part of the original Plymouth group, Puritans, or you're practicing it from a fasting perspective and an appreciation to God and the universe, whatever your perspective is for celebrating a period of thanks, consider what you're thankful for in your working world, the choice of the work that you do, how you get paid for the work that you do, where you get to do the work that you want to do, and who you get to do the work with.

Those are phenomenal choices that historically we all globally have not had the true options in exploring, and there's so many different elements that have gone into making that possible for us in the digital era, but take a moment, think about those things. If you don't have enough things to be appreciative of, check your attitude first, but if your attitude's in line and the facts are just what they are, then maybe it's time to explore a different way of doing work, a different way of getting work, a different way of conducting business because when it doesn't sit right with us, and we don't have things to be thankful for or show gratitude for, then we're obviously doing things that aren't in our best interest.

Things to think about over this Thanksgiving week here in the United States. Spend time with your family. Truly turn off the screens. Truly connect over maybe even board games or just laugh over just the world that we live in today, and embrace the love that's in the space that you're in.
