As a Driver, you will handle safe transportation, provide good customer service, keep accurate vehicle logs, load and unload, take payments or get signatures on invoices, maintain your vehicle, communicate with other drivers and your team and, in some cases, sales and marketing.

• Safe Transportation: You must obey traffic laws and arrive at your destination within a reasonable amount of time. Before every shift you will perform a thorough safety inspection and review or update vehicle logs.
  
  
• Provide Good Customer Service: Drivers handle maintaining good relations with their customers. It is up to you to inform your regulars of price changes or new options, and you should also be attentive to any comments or complaints they have. For scheduled transportation, it is your responsibility to stay on schedule or communicate delays. At times, it may be necessary for you to provide extra services, such as helping customers cross roads and highways, providing first aid or, when appropriate, performing errands for customers or the company.
  
  
• Maintain Accurate Logs: Your job performance is only as good as your logs. As a driver, you will keep vehicle logs as well as records of sales, deliveries, working hours, mileage, fuel consumption and vehicle problems. All logs will conform to applicable state, federal and company regulations.
  
  
• Loading & Unloading: Whether it’s luggage, goods or packages, a driver is responsible for what they transport. Most of the time, it is up to you to inspect and inventory the condition and amount of goods or passengers you drive. You will use special equipment or procedures when needed. You will check that your cargo and passengers are secure. Before driving, you will verify that any documentation about your cargo or passengers is correct and complete. If you work with a loading and unloading crew, it is up to you to instruct them on how to pack and move cargo.
  
  
• Taking Payments & Getting Invoice Signatures: When delivering goods, it is your responsibility to record transactions, whether this means collecting payments or getting a signature on a delivery invoice. In cases where you deliver to a vending machine, you will refill the machine and collect coins and bills from it. When returning to your supervisor, as the driver, you will turn in all receipts, signatures and money from your deliveries.
  
  
• Vehicle Maintenance: Drivers perform basic maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel or radiator fluid, performing minor repairs, washing their vehicles and performing emergency roadside repairs, such as changing tires. You are responsible for the cleanliness of your vehicle as well as that of any equipment on it. It is up to you to notify company mechanics or dispatchers of any need for larger repairs.
  
  
• Communicate with Your Team & Other Drivers: Routing and navigation change with traffic, so drivers must communicate with one another as well as with dispatch. Via radio, phone or GPS, you will communicate with your supervisor and team members about delays, accidents or other traffic situations. On occasion, you will also communicate about traffic with drivers from outside of your company.
  
  
• Sales, Marketing & Other Promotions: Some driving jobs also require drivers to make sales calls to prospective new business, to sell directly from their vehicle or to arrange merchandise and sale promotion displays.
