What is a Welder?

Welders use welding, flame-cutting, hand-soldering or brazing equipment to join metal components or to fill holes, indentations and seams in metal products.

Why companies need Welders

The purpose of a Welder is to work on bridges, manufacturing sites, planes and anywhere metal pieces need to be joined together – even on the top of skyscrapers. Welders also disassemble large objects like ships, cars, aircraft and buildings. Another aspect of being a welder is to assess the quality of welds and identify flaws.

What do Welders do?

As a Welder, you will weld components, analyze engineering and assess the quality of welds.

  • Weld Components: Work with metal to straighten, bend, melt or build on top of a metal piece. Melt and apply solder to connect joints, guide flames or electrodes and align and clamp workpieces together.

  • Analyze Engineering: Analyze blueprints, drawings, sketches, work orders, materials, plans and models for welding projects using mathematical calculations.

  • Assess the Quality of Welds: Assess welding projects for safety, defects, warping and distortion. Ensure that projects meet specifications.

In addition to these highlights there may be other tasks/actions that you will be asked to participate in or complete that coincide with accomplishing the organization’s objectives that are broader than the direct responsibilities of this in-demand job.

Who manages you and who do you work with?

This role reports to the Welding Manager, Constructions Manager or Project Manager. You will work with other technicians, welders, specialized laborers and suppliers.

What will I get paid and what I will get for doing this job?

The information below is a range of what you could be offered. Compensation and total rewards vary from company to company and your level of proficiency, match, experience, knowledge, and geography. 

  • Total Compensation Range: $31,350-$63,660
  • Employee Benefit, Programs, Perks: $5,000- $25,000 per year 
  • Paid Time Off and National Holidays  
  • Purpose or Impact Alignment between your interests and the companies’ objectives 

 All elements of the total rewards: base compensation, variable compensation, health, and welfare programs the offerings and the conditions of receiving or eligibility of such offerings are all subject to change. The company will provide any changes in writing prior to the effective date.
